Clean Up the Bedroom Clutter
A bedroom should be a place of relaxation and calmness, but is clutter robbing your bedroom of these qualities?
Easily restore the relaxing atmosphere and restful feeling you have always intended in your bedroom, in just one day.
Let’s get started.
The first step is, with pen and paper in hand, to just look around the room.
- Where is the clutter accumulating?
- What unnecessary things are cluttering up your space?
- Is your nightstand covered with books and magazines?
- Is your laundry in a heap on the floor?
- Look under the bed – is that space chock full of stuff?
- What about your dresser drawers – are your socks mixed up with your underwear?
Make some notes of the problem spots that are most obvious, and then start to work on those first.
Start with your nightstand. If you like reading at night, then perhaps you need a small bookshelf in the room, near the bed. Remove any old magazines and the books you have already finished, and find another spot for them. Put them in bookshelf in another room, recycle them or give them away. If you have other clutter and garbage on your nightstand, perhaps you need a small garbage can nearby. Make a note to buy one.
Note the spot where your dirty laundry seems to end up. Is your clothes hamper is in another area, or in the laundry room? Place a second clothes hamper in that spot, and make a mental note to use it!
If your clean laundry has a habit of ending up on top of the dresser, is it because you don’t have enough drawer space? You need to determine if you have enough room in the dresser for your clothes.
Go through your drawers and see what’s actually there. It’s sometimes surprising what you find at the bottom of a drawer! Separate your underwear, socks, tee shirts, and so on, rather than lumping them all into one drawer. Remove any you no longer wear, or that have worn out, and give them away or recycle them.
Take out any off-season clothes and store them elsewhere, so you have enough room for the current season’s clothes. You will probably find you don’t need to buy a new dresser once this is done.
How is the organization under your bed? Are there things stored there that would be more useful somewhere else? This is a space that can be put to very good use. Make a note to buy a couple of bins with wheels on them that will easily slide under your bed. This can be a good spot for those winter clothes during summer months, or vice versa.
Never sure where to put your shoes? Storing your shoes in bin under the bed is another great storage solution. What about seasonal bedding? It can be stored in an airtight bag under your bed. Make sure that anything you store under your bed is easily seen and easily removed. If you can’t see it or get at it easily, it shouldn’t be there.
One last thing – maybe the most obvious – is your bed made?
Rumpled covers and sheets, dimpled pillows, and your pajamas tossed on top make your entire room look messy. Go make that bed, plump up the pillows, and hide your pajamas under the pillow. Do this every morning, and your bedroom will soon be the place of your dreams!
